LT: I can explain the kinetic particle model of
Hook (5min) How can building models help us make sense of natural events and objects?? **explain LT and CS Mini (5-7 min) What the heck is KPM? Make a prediction. Write in first box. Power Point (to slide 6) -record your thoughts on your note catchersthese will help with your exploration today. Bbs = particles. Petri Dishes = the containers Application (10-15) Use these materials to create representations/models of the particles inside solids, liquids & gases. (in table groups) (BBs in clear petri dishes) -Share out (5 min) *justify reasoning/models. Debrief Video: States of matter-Particles (50 sec) **record thoughts on note catchersthese will help you with your exploration Power pt. slide 7-8 In your journals, write down what the kinetic Particle Model of Matter is
Materials -bbs -clear petri dishes -KPM note catchers (x80) -styrofoam balls and wires Notes: Energy = temperature 2 energy types: 1. stored energy (potential) ex: battery 2. moving energy (kinetic) Ex: using the battery Energy can be moved and transferred, but it cannot be created or destroyed. Its always existed in 1 form or another. -moves in three ways. 1. conduction 2. Convection 3. Radiation *Particle arrangement changes from energy influence (temperature) -As the temp. increases, so do the particlesincreasing their movement and changing their state; solid to liquid, and liquid to gas. -as the temp. decreases, so do the movement of the particles, thereby decreasing their movement and changing their state; gas to liquid, and liquid to solid.
-I can explain the arrangement & motion of particles in solids, liquids and gases
