Ivermectin

Ivermectin is a well-tolerated drug that is effective for treating hookworm folliculitis and onchocerciasis by paralyzing worms and killing microfilariae, though repeated treatments may be necessary for hookworm and it is contraindicated for young children, pregnant, and breastfeeding women. Ivermectin works by intensifying GABA transmission to effectively paralyze and kill parasites, blocking nerve signals and peripheral release of GABA, with microfilariae in the skin rapidly diminishing within days of a single dose and remaining low for months.
