Chapter 5

This chapter concludes that the proposal aimed to fabricate a cellulose acetate mixed matrix membrane with fumed silica filler to produce an improved membrane, the cellulose acetate membrane was also fabricated and tested for comparison, and the main challenge was improving performance by reducing defects through organic-inorganic compatibility and finding the best fumed silica loading percentage.

CHAPTER 5

CONCLUSION

The sole purpose of this proposal was to fabricating the cellulose acetate mixed matrix membrane with fumed silica as a filler. The main idea was that, by mixing the high separation performance of fumed silica into the cellulose acetate will produced the improved cellulose acetate membrane in term of separation performance. To study the performance of the produced mixed matrix membrane the respective membrane that is the cellulose acetate membrane will also been fabricated and tested for comparison purpose. The main challenge of this study was to learn about the organic-inorganic compatibility in order to reduce defects and improve performance of the produced membrane. It was also the main interest to find the best loading percentage of fumed silica into the cellulose acetate membrane that could give the best separation performance.
