Winding and Current Direction Transformer

To obtain a desired vector group for a transformer, the proper winding and current directions must be used for each winding. The winding direction is defined as right or left depending on the tilting direction of the foil or layers. The current direction is defined as right if the current flows clockwise into the winding, and left if counter-clockwise. By default, foil windings use right winding and current directions, while layer windings use left winding direction and right current direction with forward rotation and the same current direction for all layers.

WINDING DIRECTION AND CURRENT DIRECTION

1. Purpose
To obtain the desired vector group of a transformer, appropriate connections have to be made and correct winding and current directions should be used for the different windings

2.2 Layer Winding Right Winding Direction Left Winding Direction

3. Current Direction
We call the current direction right if the current coming from the line bushing is turning clockwise into the winding. If current is turning counter-clockwise, we call the current direction left.

4. Rule
The default for foil windings is the right winding direction and the right current direction. The default for layer windings is the left winding direction and the right current direction with forward rotation. In the case of layer windings, the successive layers are wound alternately with the right and left winding direction, but the current direction remains the same for all layers.
