BODES PLOT FREQUENCY RESPONSE ANALYSIS By the term FREQUENCY RESPONSE we mean the steady state response of a system to a sinusoidal input. In the frequency response method, the most conventional methods available to control engineers for analysis and design of control system is to vary the input signal over a certain range and study the resulting frequency response. Consider a linear system with sinusoidal input signal. r (t) = A Sin Wt
The magnitude and phase relation between sinusoidal input and steady state output of a system is termed as the frequency response. For system with vary large time constant the frequency response test in quiet. Cumbersome perform as the time required for the output to reach steady state value is quite large. Hence the frequency response test is not recommended for system with very large time constant. BODES PLOT : One of the most useful representative of a transfer function is a logarithmic plot. It consist of two graphs. 1) 2) Output voltage in db s Vs log frequency. Frequency Vs phase shift.
These plots are called BODEs PLOTS in HONOUR OF H W BODE. Who did the basic work in this area. TYPE 0 SYSTEM : a) b) No amplitude change No phase change
TYPE 1 CONTROL SYSTEM : a) b) - 20 db per decade fall Phase angle varies from 0 to -90 Deg.
TYPE 2 CONTROL SYSTEM : a) b) - 40 db per decade fall Phase angle varies from 0 to 180 Deg.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS EQUIPMENT REQUIRED : 1) 2) 3) 4) Sinewave oscillator upto 100 KHz Dual channel C.R.O. Phase Angle meter (if available) BODEs Plot kit
PROCEDURE : 1) Set the oscillator frequency to 100 Hz (Sinewave). Set its amplitude to peak to peak. 2) Connect the output sine wave oscillator to Bodes plot unit and tabulate your results as below : Input FREQUENCY = 10V peak to peak VOLTAGE GAIN= 20 LOG 10 VOUT VIN PHASE
100 Hz 500 Hz 1 KHz 10 KHz 100 KHz 3. NOTE : FOR EVERY FREQUENCY ADJUST THE INPUT TO 10V PEAK TO PEAK. Plot a graph between log frequency Vs voltage gain in dbs.
