Exposition and Discovery Learning

Expository and discovery learning approaches were presented. The expository approach directly tells students the contents to be learned. In contrast, the discovery approach does not provide the main content and students must independently discover it. The general structure of an expository lesson is to review previous lessons, overview the present content, describe and explain the details in full, and summarize. Discovery learning encourages students to ask questions and formulate their own understandings from examples or experiences. Guidelines for planning a discovery lesson include identifying concepts and skills, developing a sequence of questions, and providing examples in a progression leading to concept discovery. Rules of thumb for discovery include never providing the answer and maintaining acceptance and patience.

DISCOVERY LEARNING

Is an inquiry-based learning approach. This approach of learning encourages students to ask questions and formulate their own conjectures and to deduce general principles from practical examples or experience.

GUIDELINES FOR PLAINING DISCOVERY LESSON

Identify the concept to be learned and skills that lead to understanding of that concept.
Carefully planned and develop a sequence of questions that should be asked to help yours students discover the mathematical concept concerned Prepare a set of specific examples and arrange them in a progression leading to concept discovery Make readily available relevant reference materials and equipment for students use

RULES OF THUMB
Never
