FMP BRIEF #1 - The Inge Druckrey Assignment Brief This brief is inspired by the work of Inge Druckrey, who is a designer and teacher. During the 1960's she taught at Kansas City Art Institute. As part of her teaching she ran a series of assignments. Assignment #1 "Placing 2 black squares of any size in a given format to show how many different ways you can handle this assignment" This assignment will commence on 14 / 01 / 2013. I will make one image every day, one at thebeginningof the day and the other at the end of the day. This brief has stemmed from my last brief in the previous module where I undertook a competition brief in 8 hours. It was refreshingly exciting to break away from all the work I was doing and just focus on something completely different that was all about the idea rather than a polished nished piece. Although it may seem like a chore to do this every day I think I will relish the opportunity that it will give me to really just play around with no restrictions. Once I have a large quantity of work I will then set about distributing them in a format that I think will be appropriate. Background / Considerations This brief has come directly from a documentary about Inge Druckrey called Teaching To See. In the documentary Inge and her former students discuss the importance of this assignment in developing their visual awareness, eye for negative space and abstract imagery. This assignment is aimed at helping improve these skills through a simple repetition of practice.

Mandatory Requirements Commencing 20 / 01 / 2013 every day an image is to be made under this format.

Deliverables A complete collection of works that explore and exploit this assignment.

Studio Deadline 06 / 05 / 2013

Module Deadline 29 / 05 / 2013
