Problem Context and definition A promotions company requires your services to assist them in calculating the costs for providing promotional services. Their requirements for the program are stated below. The company has different categories of advertising with different pricing schemes. After inputting the category of the ad, the following inputs are also required but not limited to:

The number of weeks for the ad (hint: 7 weeks is equivalent to 1 month + 3 weeks); The type of ad; and if the customer is a returning customer, black and white or colour print, size of ad and time for showings/announcement

If the category of ad is a newspaper then the customer needs to indicate whether they need black and white print or colour (colour costs an additional $1000 per showing), full page ad, medium size or regular (full page is an additional $4000 per showing and medium size is an additional $1500 per showing). If the time for the TV and radio ad is more than a minute but less than 3 minutes then the cost is an additional $3000 per showing/announcement time over 3 minutes is an additional $6000 per showing/announcement, time less than a minute is charged at the regular rate. The costs given are the basic cost for each category for a week. If the ads are required for a month, the customer will be charged the basic amount per week less 5% discount for billboard, 10% discount for TV ads, 20% discount for radio ads and 22.5% discount for newspaper ads. Charitable, non-profit seeking organizations are given a discount on all categories, 60% discount on TV and radio ads, while 50% discount on flyers and newspaper ads. Education institutions get a 25% discount on newspaper ads, personal ads get 7% discount on TV and newspaper ads if run for more than two weeks and other business institutions get a 10% discount on all categories if run for more than one week. For each month rented with the exception of billboards, customers get a number of free showings, ads or announcements (to be determined). For a rental period of less than a month or an additional rental of part of a month no free showings, ads or announcements are given and the customer is charged at the weekly rate. The company has promotional deals for their returning customers so that they get a discount of 10% on overall charges. A tax of 16.5% (GCT) is charged. Educational and charitable institutions are exempt The following is to be noted and also needed a) A running total of how many clients were served and how much money was collected per category should be maintained so that a daily report can be obtained. At the end of the day, all totals are reset to 0. b) An invoice showing; type of ad, name of customer, the length of time for the ad, overall cycle and the taxes paid and the charge overall. c) Report showing number of each type of advertising medium used, and amount collected for that period for each type. d) The system should implement a security feature for entry and after three unsuccessful attempts of the security code; the system should lock out the user.

Solution The promotions company wishes for you to implement a menu-based C program that will simulate the operations of this system by allowing for the functionality described above to be carried out upon successful entry into the restricted area. Please note that the system should be user-friendly and use error-messaging to display all validation and other errors. The system may also store data other than those explicitly stated above.
