Dogs may visit the park, but must be on a leash at all times. Swimming is not permitted in either Lake Treganowan or Lake Nobelius at any time; bathing is only permitted in the designated wading pool. Friends of Emerald Lake Park volunteer group aims to improve the amenity of the park. The group meets regularly and conducts working bees in the park, as well as producing an occasional newsletter. Emerald Lake Park


Discover all that Emerald Lake Park has to offer walking trails, tranquil rainforest, expansive lawns, fishing, picnics and barbecues, cafe and tearooms, model railway, lakeside views, paddleboat hire, and a wading pool for children in the summer months. The park offers play activities suitable for people of all ages; a childrens playground for the younger ones, including slides, climbing frame and swings, and an outdoor gym for teenagers and older adults to be active while enjoying the outdoors. Picnic shelters, amphitheatres or lakeside function rooms can be booked for your next family or group function. Group packages are available for corporate functions, schools, friends and family groups, weddings, birthdays and celebrations. The Emerald Lake Park Environment Centre offers information about the park, including its history, features of the park, native flora and fauna and a live aquatic animal display. The environment centre is open to all during regular park hours.
Paddleboats for hire
For a different experience of Emerald Lake Park, try a paddleboat. Enjoy a quiet paddle for two, or book a number of paddleboats for a fun activity for a group. Paddleboats operate every day from 11.30am; however, availability is dependant on weather conditions so paddleboats may not be available for hire during the cooler months. Paddleboats are two-seated and an adult must accompany small children. Assistance is provided for hiring, boarding and safety requirements. Paddleboats can be hired from the jetty during open hours. To check availability during winter months, contact Emerald Lake Park rangers on 1300 131 683 before your visit.

Model railway
Emerald Lake Park has the largest working model railway in HO scale (1:87) in the southern hemisphere 180 square metres in incredible detail. The model, including miniatures living in towns, city and country, buttons to press and trains to watch, is undercover and is open Thursday to Sunday (open seven days during school and public holidays) from 11.30am. Puffing Billy Steam Railway


Travel 24 kilometres through the magnificent Dandenong Ranges from Belgrave to Emerald Lake Park and Gembrook in a traditional steam train with open or closed carriages. Alternatively, enjoy a unique first class experience in luxury heritage dining carriages. Book for lunch (seven days a week) or dinner (most Friday and Saturday evenings) or charter a group of 60 to 90 passengers. Group bookings can be made on all scheduled trains and special charter trains for groups of up to 250 are also available. Puffing Billy runs every day except Christmas Day. Steam trains are not used on CFA declared days of total fire ban. Emerald Lake cafe and tearooms


Emerald Lake cafe and tearooms are open every day of the year except Christmas Day. Enjoy a wide selection of hot and cold food and beverages in air-conditioned comfort. Entry and car parking
Entry to Emerald Lake Park is free but parking fees apply ($2 per hour or $6 per day). Parking tickets can be purchased on arrival at the park and must be displayed at all times. Group car parking rates are available for 15 or more cars. Cardinia Shire residents may purchase a discounted annual parking pass for $10. Annual passes are also available to nonresidents on application ($40 per pass). Annual passes cannot be used on specific dates, such as the Great Train Race Day. Signs will be displayed on these days and parking fees will apply. For more information phone 5945 0400.

Picnic shelters
Shelters of varying sizes can be booked for private use: Lions Den: 100 people (barbecue, toilets, parking) Messmate: 60 people (barbecue, parking, electricity) Boatshed: 40 people (view of the lake) Poolside: 40 people (near wading pool and playgrounds) Lakeside: 40 people (near wading pool and playgrounds) Picnic shelters can be booked through Puffing Billy Railway on 9757 0700.
