Body Mass Index (BMI) : Definition

Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measure used to determine if a person's weight is appropriate for their height. It is calculated by dividing a person's weight in kilograms by the square of their height in meters. BMI ranges are used to classify individuals as underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese, with each classification carrying differing health risks. Being overweight or obese increases the risk of health issues like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease and some cancers.
