Topic AIM Statement of Problem Hypothesis Variables: String

The document summarizes an experiment investigating how the length of a simple pendulum affects its swing time. It was hypothesized that a shorter pendulum would swing faster. The experiment measured the time for 10 swings at string lengths of 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 cm. The results showed that as length increased, time for one swing also increased, with swing times ranging from 1.0 to 1.6 seconds. Therefore, the hypothesis that a shorter pendulum would swing faster was accepted.

TOPIC : Simple pendulum AIM : To investigate how the length of pendulum affect its swing.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM : Will a simple pendulum swing faster if the length is shortened? HYPOTHESIS : If the length of pendulum is shortened, it will swing faster. VARIABLES : Manipulated variables: length of Pendulum Responding variables : time taken for one swing. Constant variables : mass of Pendulum APPARATUS : Retort stand, stopwatch, meter rule. MATERIAL : Metal bob & string PROCEDURE : 1. Tie a metal bob with a string and clamp it to a retort stand. 2. Fix the length of string at 20 cm. 3. Let the pendulum go and swing for 10 complete swings. 4. At the same time start the stop watch and stop it after 10 swings. 5. Measure the time and record it in the table below. 6. Change the length of string and repeat steps 3, 4 & 5

DISCUSSION: 1. (Plot a graph based on the data recorded) 2. From the experiment, the length of the string affect the time taken for a complete swing. 3. When the string is shortened, the pendulum swings faster. 4. Is the hypothesis accepted ? (Yes/No) CONCLUSION: If the pendulum string is shorter, it will swing faster.
