Tutorial 5 Static

This document contains instructions for 6 tutorial problems involving calculating equivalent force systems. The problems involve replacing combinations of forces and couples acting on beams, frames, and drills with equivalent single forces and couples. The equivalent forces and couples must be determined by summing moments and resolving forces, and their locations on the members must be specified relative to given points.

Tutorial No 5 4.85 Determine the resultant couple moment acting on the beam.

Solve the problem two ways: (a) sum moments about point O (b) sum moments about point A.

4.90 Two couples act on the frame. If d=1.2m , determine the resultant couple moment. Compute the result by resolving each force into x and y components and (a) finding the moment of each couple (Eq. 413) (b) summing the moments of all the force components about point B.

4.106 Replace the force system acting on the beam by an equivalent force and couple moment at point B.

4.115 Handle forces F1and F2 are applied to the electric drill. Replace this force system by an equivalent resultant force and couple moment acting at point O. Express the results in Cartesian vector form.

4.125 Replace the force system acting on the frame by an equivalent resultant force and specify where the resultants line of action intersects member AB, measured from point A.

4.145 Replace the distributed loading with an equivalent resultant force, and specify its location on the beam measured from point A

4.154 Replace the distributed loading with an equivalent resultant force, and specify its location on the beam measured from point A.
