100 Paise = 1 Rupee (1964- )

NOTE: The Paisa was at first called Naya Paisa (= New


Paisa), so that people would distinguish from the old nondecimal Paisa (or Pice, equal to 1/64 Rupee).
After 7 years, the word new was dropped, and the coin
was simply called a Paisa.
NOTE: Many of the Paisa standard types come with
three obverse varieties.
