Chapter 5: Motion Section A

This document contains three sections about motion, engines, and vehicles. Section A describes an experiment to investigate the relationship between pressure, force, and surface area using metal blocks placed on sand. Section B identifies components of a diesel engine and their functions. Section C provides a statement about stopping loaded and empty trolleys, asking for a hypothesis and experiment design to test it. It also lists differences between jet and rocket engines and asks the reader to identify common characteristics and develop a concept based on vehicles shown.

CHAPTER 5: MOTION Section A 1.

Figure shows the experiment was carried out to investigate the relationship between pressure, force and surface area.

B A

Two metal block A and B of mass 5 kg is placed on a layer of sand in a through. Each face of block is placed, in turn, on the sand and the depression of the block in the sand is recorded. 1.
