CHAPTER - 1 INTRODUCTION

HISTORY
In 1997, Mahantesh G.K. and two of his friends envisioned an organisation to provide opportunities for the deserving, young, and talented children with disability of any form, or from marginalized economic backgrounds. Thus, more than a decade ago, Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled came into existence by providing free hostel facilities to the deserving students. Since inception, Samarthanam has been working to empower the visually impaired, disabled and underprivileged people in India. Samarthanam supports the visually impaired, disabled and underprivileged to keep in pace with the rest of the society by providing quality education, accommodation, nutritious food, vocational training, placement based rehabilitation and achieve personal independence. However the long term focus of Samarthanam is shaping an inclusive society which provides opportunitieswithout any discriminationfor the development of the visually impaired, disabled and underprivileged people. Samarthanam was originally started with 2 visually impaired friends and over the span of 13 years has grown into a full fledged organization that provides end to end support facilities. Mr. Mahantesh has been single handedly responsible for drawing the attention of both Government and private institutions and persuading them in offering some much needed assistance in this venture. Having executed a wide range of projects from education to rehabilitation, Samarthanam has evolved to become a renowned and deeply respected entity in the developmental sector.

VISION An inclusive society, free of discrimination against the disabled, where people with disabilities, especially the visually impaired, enjoy equal opportunities and an enhanced quality of life.

Primary Data Primary data have been directly collected from the members and students of smarthanam as well from the people outside the smarthanam by survey method through undisguised structured questionnaire. Questions like open ended, close ended, multiple choice, dichotomous and ranking type have been used for the purpose of data collection. Secondary Data Secondary data have been collected from official website of SMARTHANM and also from other official websites.

SAMPLE SIZE Sample size is the total number of samples selected for the study from the sampling population. Sample size for the study taken is 30.

(B) TOOLS :

Tools used in the study are 1. Percentage analysis 2. T-test

T-test

A t-test is any statistical hypothesis test in which the test statistic follows a Student's t distribution if the null hypothesis is supported. It is most commonly applied when the test statistic would follow a normal distribution if the value of a scaling term in the test statistic were known. When the scaling term is unknown and is replaced by an estimate based on the data.

Analysis and Interpretation

No of Males and females No of respondents males females 30 18 12

Interpretation:

In the given graph it clearly indicates that out of 30 respondent 18 are males and 12 are females.

Age group of respondents Age group 15-20 20-25 25-30 No of respondent 30 14 12 4

Total no. of samples (n)= 30 X = yes = 18 Y = No = 12 Ho = Samarthanam educational services are satisfactory H1= Samarthanam educational services are not satisfactory

Calculation of Tcal value D(x-y) = 18-12 d = 6 d2 = 36 d = d/n = 6/30 = 0.2 S2 = d- (d)*n/ n-1 S2 = 36-0.04*30/30-1 S2 = 1.2 S = 1.09

Tcal

= d/s/n

= 0.2/1.09*30 = 1.004

T at 5% with n-1 =29 degree of freedom Ttab = 2.76 ( value from table) Hence Ttab > Tcal Accept Ho, i.e., Educational services offered by samarthanam trust was satisfactory. From the above test it is proved that the educational services offered by samarthanam trust was satisfactory.

Ho = Child Labors looking support from govt for food and money H1= Child Labors are not looking support from govt

Calculation of Tcal value D(x-y) = 13-17 d = 4 d2 = 16 d = d/n = 4/30 = 0.13 S2 = d- (d)*n/ n-1 S2 = 16-0.0169*30/30-1 S2 = 0.53 S = 0.7280 Tcal
= d/s/n

= 0.13/0.728*30 = 0.978

T at 5% with n-1 =29 degree of freedom Ttab = 2.76 ( value from table) Hence Ttab > Tcal

Accept Ho, i.e., support given by the volunteers for the disable children of samarthanam are satisfactory. From the above test it has been proved that support of volunteers are satisfactory.

Chapter - 5 Recommendations And Suggestions

Recommendations :

The trust should provide more educational services for the disabled as the research says the respondents are not very satisfied with the services. The children should undergo some motivational and personality development classes. The trust should bring more awareness in the public so as to get more volunteers for supporting the system

Suggestions :

The trust can arrange some experienced visiting staff so that the children can get the required knowledge More volunteers should be encouraged to address the children so that the additional coaching can be given Individual counselling should be done so that the children can express their needs and necessary steps should be taken to resolve the problems

Chapter 6 Conclusions

From the above study it can be concluded that the organization requires more awareness and services regarding education should be taken as major function so that the number of children not continuing with the samarthanam trust will be reduced. Surveys should be done so that the trust can understand the problems and get more number of volunteers for their additional support.
