City Council Funds Emergency Shelter Extension, Public Restrooms, 2015 Centennial Support with Budget Revisions
Council President Gloria Applauds Sensible Spending
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 11, 2013) The San Diego City Council approved mid-year budget revisions that included funding to extend the winter emergency homeless shelter for 90 days, install two public restroom facilities Downtown, and support the ongoing development of Balboa Parks 2015 Centennial. Funds were available due primarily to increased revenues. Council President Todd Gloria, who also serves as the Budget and Finance Committee Chairman, applauded the unanimous decision of his colleagues. We have worked diligently to strengthen the Citys finances for the past four years, and todays action demonstrated continued discipline, said Council President Gloria. I look forward to a more comprehensive evaluation of the Citys ongoing funding needs through the Fiscal Year 2014 budget deliberations that begin next month. The notable items funded in todays action were: Emergency Winter Shelter Program: extended until July 1, 2013 $300,000; Downtown Public Restrooms $400,000; and Balboa Park 2015 Centennial Celebration $350,000. ###
