Plates and Shts-Diff.

There is a difference in thickness ranges that defines steel sheets and strips according to Indian standards IS:2062 and IS:1079. Sheets have a thickness between 0.4 to 4.65 mm, while strips have a slightly thicker range of 1.6 to 10 mm. Both standards refer to IS:1730 for dimensional specifications of plates, sheets, and strips.

com/Q/What_is_the_size_difference_between_ste el_sheet_and_steel_strip

What is the size difference between steel sheet and steel strip?

Answer:

Basically there are three different standards that create confusion; IS: 2062 & IS: 1079. IS:2062 is for weldable structural steel & IS:1079 is for Hot rolled carbon steel sheet & strip. IS:2062 covers- Plate, Sheets & Strips, whereas IS:1079 cover only Sheets & strips. For dimensions both refer to IS:1730. It says thickness range for plates: 5 to 63 mm, Sheet: 0.4 to 4.65 mm & Strip: 1.6 to 10 mm.
