Scrabble Rules & Regulations

Listed below are a set of user created rules that have been determined to create the most enjoyable Scrabble game possible. This contract is entirely negotiable prior to the beginning of each game but may not be altered throughout. 1. The game begins with each player picking one tile. The player with the tile alphabetically closest to the letter A goes first, from whom the game will rotate clockwise. Blank tiles are invalid this round and will result in a redraw. 2. The validity of all words will be determined by an on-hand dictionary or www.merriamwebster.com. Exceptions to this rule are listed below. 3. All dictionary use must be strictly monitored. Grievances regarding contested words must be made public and looked up by an opposing player. 4. Players must have an at least elementary understanding of a word before playing it. 5. Opposing players may challenge this understanding by requesting a definition once a word is played. Providing an inaccurate definition will result in no penalty beyond the redaction of the word and a retry by the player. 6. If a player is uncertain of the spelling of a word, they may request an opposing player to look it up. 7. If a player is uncertain of the existence of a word, they may request an opposing player to look it up. a. If the word exists, the player must provide a modestly accurate definition before playing the word. b. If the word does not exist or the players definition is inaccurate, there is no penalty beyond the redaction of said word. 8. The game ends immediately when one player uses all of their tiles. a. If a player has no remaining moves, they may pass their turn to the next player. This process continues until every member has no remaining moves, potentially resulting in a single player having multiple consecutive turns. 9. The cumulative points of the tiles remaining in ones hand are subtracted from their total score.
