Swab & Surge Pressure Estimation

This document provides instructions for calculating swab and surge pressures during drilling operations. Swab pressure should be calculated using the open hole inner diameter from surface to bit depth, while surge pressure uses the casing inner diameter from shoe depth to surface. The document includes a table to input various drilling parameters such as drill pipe dimensions, mud properties, hole size, and casing information to calculate the swab, surge pressures, and equivalent mud weights.

SWAB & SURGE PRESSURE ESTIMATION

NOTE: When calculating SWAB Pressure use the open hole ID to surface. When calculating SURGE pressure use casing ID to the shoe. When calculating SWAB pressure, inputs regarding casing ID and depth are not required.
