Manila Commute Script
Manila Commute Script
Audio (Limang Dipang Tao Barbies Cradle) Here in Manila, commuting is a battlefield. One must possess exceptional skill and devise special tactics to become victorious over traffic, pollution, and a tight budget. Its a good thing, then, that the metro gives us several ways to conquer the streets. So whether youre headed to work, school, or if youre just in for the trip, heres how to get around town.
Jeepney shots
Naturally, your first option is to ride the king of the road, the world-famous Philippine jeepney. (Beep beep Bamboo) Jeepneys originally came from the US military jeeps used in World War II. Since then, we have tweaked them with decorations, artworks, and even religious figurines to fit the Filipino taste and culture. With the fare usually ranging from 7 to 15 pesos, and since theyre found everywhere, jeepneys are almost always the cheapest and most popular alternative.
FX shots
Slightly more expensive are the UV Express Vans or more commonly known as the FX. Unlike the jeepney, the FX is a bit more comfortable. You get more personal space, and of course, you get to enjoy the air-conditioning. FX rates usually range from 20 to 60 pesos.
Buses
For longer rides, buses are the way to go. Some are airconditioned while the ordinary ones arent, but theyll get you to your destination at about the same time. Bus fares range from 15 to 60 pesos. If youre traveling short distances, you can always count on a tricycle or a pedicab. These threewheeled wonders can go places larger vehicles normally cant. Depending on the distance, rides can cost around 10 to 50 pesos.
LRT
But if youre running late and are really in a hurry, and if youre in for the thrill, a ride on the train is definitely for you. The Light Rail Transit and the Metro Rail Transit, more commonly known as the LRT and MRT, give us the true meaning of the Hunger Games. Typically packed from coach to coach, especially during the rush hours, these trains mold us to become better people by teaching us values like patience, self-control, and perseverance. The LRT1 stretches from Roosevelt to Baclaran, the LRT 2 from Recto to Katipunan, and the MRT travels along EDSA. Train fares range from 14 to 20 pesos. Now that you know which ride is for you, I hope you use it to discover the best of the city. Have fun, and may the odds be ever in your favor. This is Loj Guinmapang for Kalsada Manila.
