Dear Colleague:

SUMMARY: This letter includes the initial draft of the 2001-2002 Institutional Student Information
Record (ISIR) layout and description.

We are pleased to release the initial draft layout and description of the 2001-2002 ISIR. We have
reorganized the ISIR to reflect the changes we are making on the Free Application for Federal
Student Aid (FAFSA).

What Is the ISIR

The ISIR contains the information reported on the FAFSA, as well as key processing results and
National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) Financial Aid History information. The record length
for the draft 2001-2002 ISIR is 2,850 bytes. The 2000-2001 ISIR was 2,720 bytes.

Enclosed are the following:

• Enclosure 1 contains the draft ISIR layout.

• Enclosure 2 contains the 2000-2001 / 2001-2002 ISIR Cross Reference table.

When You Can Expect The Final ISIR Layout

We are providing this early draft of the ISIR layout so you can begin to modify your systems for
2001-2002. As we test modifications to the Central Processing System (CPS) for the 2001-2002
processing cycle during the fall of 2000 we may find we have to make further changes. We will
include the final draft version of the layout in the EDE Technical Reference, which we will distribute
in December 2000. We cannot make the Comment Code text available until we publish the EDE
Technical Reference. If we make any changes to the layout after we test the 2001-2002 CPS
System and put it into production, we will distribute update pages after CPS start up which will
occur on 01/12/2001.
