Setting: Scrooge’s House, the Counting House, His Business, and London, England

Major Events: In Stave 1 of “A Christmas Carol,” by Charles Dickens, Marley is dead


for seven years past. Scrooge his business partner did not go to his funeral seven
years ago he was not at the funeral he was making a profit with his consumers.
Scrooge was a man of selfishness and did not care for others. Scrooge was all blue
and as weak as brain his heart was weaker. Scrooge always took credit for Marley’s
costumer. When Scrooge was in his counting house, his nephew came to say a
merry Christmas. After his nephew the last spark of his clerk, Bob Cratchit coal blew
out. As there was only one coal and the coal box was kept with Scrooge in his office.
After he left Scrooge and Bob Cratchit went home. While they locked up Bob Cachet
asked Scrooge if he could have a day off at Christmas day. Scrooge refused and Bob
Cratchit argued until he got his day off. When they locked up and left home. When
Scrooge came to his house he locked up his doors and windows. Soon after that
there were sounds of chains rattling. Then there he saw Marley’s Ghost in long huge
chains. Marley then stated that the chains were the chains of all human evils.
Marley also stated that Scrooge’s chains will be much longer and it was sign of
danger. Scrooge refused to listen to him. Marley then stated his last few words, the
last few words were that three ghosts were going to appear the first one at one’
o’clock, the second one at twelve’ o’clock, and the third one at one’ o’clock. When
Marley was gone Scrooge was exhausted and fell into a deep sleep.

Unresolved Conflicts: Scrooge does not know the true meaning of Christmas.
Scrooge still did not meet the three ghosts.

Quote: “A little thing affects them. A slight disorder of the stomach makes them
cheats. You may be an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese,
a fragment of an underdone potato. There’s more of gravy than of grave about you,
what you are.”
