Overview Week 1 Day 1(Monday) 2-1 Describing a Pattern OBJECTIVE : The student will learn how to continue a number pattern and write a rule for a number pattern. VOCABULARY : Term, Conjecture WARM-UP: Monday Multiplication Table ACTIVITY: Power point and discovery learning; students take notes and participate in finding the number patterns. HOMEWORK: Practice 2-1, pg. 65 (1-10, 12-15, 19-22, 28-31)

Day 2 (Tuesday) 2-2 Variables and Expressions OBJECTIVE : The student will learn how to use variables and evaluate algebraic expressions. VOCABULARY : Numerical expression, variable, algebraic expression WARM-UP: Tuesday Word Puzzle ACTIVITY: The students will spend the class period working with manipulative (algebra tiles) to work with variables visually. Notes will be taken in class that follow the powerpoint and students will have a change to work on the white board. HOMEWORK: Practice 2-2, pg. 71 (1-8)

Day 3 (Wednesday) 2-3 Writing Algebraic Expressions OBJECTIVE : The student will relate words to algebraic expressions and us algebraic expressions in real world situations. WARM-UP: Wednesday Math Minute ACTIVITY: Power point that words through word phrases and word problems and a data table. Make a note card with the key word phrases (pg. 74). HOMEWORK: Re-teaching 2-3, Enrichment 2-3

Day 4 (Thursday) 2-4 Problem Solving: Make a Table and Look for a Patter OBJECTIVE : The student will solve problems by making a table to find a pattern. WARM-UP: Thursday MEAP Practice ACTIVITY: CHECK POINT QUIZ #1 The class will work on two problems that deal with the number of seats at a table. HOMEWORK: Practice 2-4, Worksheet 2B Quiz Corrections Day 5 (Friday) 2-5 Using Number Sense to Solve One-Step Equations OBJECTIVE : The student will use mental math to solve equations and learn how to estimate solutions to one-step equations. VOCABULARY : Identity Property of Addition and Multiplication, Commutative Property of Addition and Multiplication, Associative Property of Addition and Multiplication, equation, open sentence, solution WARM-UP: Friday Addition and Subtraction problems ACTIVITY: A Power point for students to take notes and discover the properties and they also have an opportunity to come to the board to demonstrate their work. HOMEWORK: Practice 2-5, Pg. 86 (15, 28)

Week 2 Day 6 (Monday) 2-6 Solving Addition and Subtraction Equations OBJECTIVE : The student will solve equations by using subtraction and addition. VOCABULARY : Subtraction and Addition Property of Equality WARM-UP: Monday Multiplication ACTIVITY: A Power point with example problems for the students to work through. Students may volunteer to work on the problems on the board. HOMEWORK: Re-teaching 2-6, Enrichment 2-6, pg. 94 (34) Day 7 (Tuesday) 2-7 Solving Multiplication and Division Equations OBJECTIVE : The student will solve equations by dividing and multiplying. VOCABULARY : Division and Multiplication Property of Equality WARM-UP: Tuesday Word Problem ACTIVITY: Power point with interactive scale that will show how multiplying and dividing solves equations. HOMEWORK: Practice 2-7, 2C Day 8 (Wednesday) 2-8 Exponents OBJECTIVE : The student will use exponents and simplify expressions with exponents VOCABULARY : Exponent, power WARM-UP: Wednesday Math Minute ACTIVITY: Power point presentation that explains exponents and class works through examples HOMEWORK: Practice 2-8

Day 8 (Thursday) 2-9 The Distributive Property OBJECTIVE : The student will use the distributive property VOCABULARY : The Distributive Property WARM-UP: Thursday MEAP ACTIVITY: A Power point presentation that provides examples involving the distributive property. HOMEWORK: Practice 2-9

Day 9 (Friday) OBJECTIVE : Practice all the concepts learned thus far; collaboration day WARM-UP: Friday Addition and Subtraction Problem ACTIVITY: Check Point Quiz 2-2 HOMEWORK: Puzzle 2, Worksheet 2B, Quiz Corrections
