Distance can act as a barrier to communication when people are too far apart to interact without other means, as in the past it could take weeks for letters to reach their destination. Distance acts as a barrier when two people are too far apart to communicate and do not have other modes of communication . In the days before the telephone and the internet it could take many days for a letter to reach its destination.In the Middle Ages it could take weeks. Even phone calls need to take into account the time difference between caller and recipient - no-one wants a call in the middle of the night.
Technology has however succeeded in bridging this gap today to a large extent
