Lessons Learned Log: Programme: Project: ASL Internet Site

Having established the basic technology for their ASL Internet Site project, the author notes that adding electronic order capture via the internet should now be a small additional development and should be evaluated as a possible extension for 1997. They also learned that file names are case-sensitive on the internet, unlike on normal PCs, so future projects should ensure all file names are in lowercase only. Additionally, using Prince 2 to manage the project worked well and the author recommends formally introducing Prince 2 to manage all future development projects.

Lessons Learned & Reference Having established the basic technology, it would now be a relatively small development to include electronic order capture via the internet. This should be evaluated as a possible extension in 1997. Problems were experienced because file-names on the Internet are case-sensitive, whereas on normal PCs they are not. In future we should ensure that all file names are in lower case only. We used Prince 2 as a pilot for managing this project and it worked well. It is recommended that the method be formally introduced to all our development projects
