Declaritive Procedural

Numeracy follows a language. Use correct language to identify numbers.

Numbers follow a sequence and each is only counted once. Count numbers in sequential order ascending and desending, starting from any number.
. Issue 1

Numbers always have the same value (that can be represented in different forms) that can be added to. Identify numbers with quantitis (0-9)

Terms such as 'more', 'less', 'same as', "not the same as' have specifit meanings Identify differences between collections.

Materials can be manipulated to represent numbers and their values. Demonstrate skills of addition using materials.

Year 1 Declaritiv e Procedur al

10 000 is made up of 10 thousands, 100 hundreds. 1000 tens, 10 000 ones. 2 digit numbers consist of tens and ones. Count forwards and backwards between 1 100.

Numbers can be counted in collections of 2, 5, 10 and can be added to (addition) or taken away from (subtractio n). Count collections and sequences

Addition or subtractio n is a strategy used to solve problems. Solve simple addition and subtractio n problems

Numbers can be divided into even quantities. Compare, order and make correspon dences of collections according to their charastics.

Partitionin g numbers does not change the value of the original amount. Partition quantities into 10's
Issue 2

Issue 3
3 digit nubers consist of hundreds, tens and ones. Problems can be solved mentally. Identify numbers over 100. Solve simple addition problems mentally and written.

Year 2 Declaritive Procedural

Counting in number sequences can reveal a pattern. Multiplication can be linked to repeted addition. Identify patterns when counting number sequences.

Partitioning is a strategy that can be used to understand the connection between addition and subtraction. Solve problems using materials to represent a group.

Year 3 Declaritiv e Procedura l

Digital technologies can be used to solve problems. Solve division and multiplicatio n problems using appropriate strategies including ICTs

Issue 5

Multiplicat ion can be observed through patterns of 2, 3, 5, 10. Identify multiplicat ion and division patterns of 2, 3, 5, 10.

Even numbers can be divided by two. Identify odd and even numbers on a number line.

Issue 4

Quotation and particitioning are different types of division. Represent division using manipulative objects, both for quoation and partitioning.
Division is the opposite of multiplicatio n and can be represented in multiple ways. Distinguish what strategies should be used to solve different problems.

Part whole knowledge. Demonstrate knowledge of part-whole numbers.
