The document discusses skills developed while completing filmmaking exercises. It describes filming and editing a scene with match cuts, shot reverse shot, and following the 180-degree rule. For the main task, the student created opening titles and a 2-minute film. They learned script formatting and editing tools. Feedback indicates the student improved at match cuts, establishing shots, shot reverse shots, point-of-view shots, camera angles, and editing techniques like layering, pull focus, and sound bridges.

Skill Developement

We had to complete a preliminary exercise where we filmed and edited a character opening a door, crossing the room and sitting down in front of another character where they exchange dialogue then get up and leave. It had to demonstrate a match on action, shot reverse shot and the 180-degree rule. For our main task we had to create the titles and opening of a new fiction film lasting a maximum of 2 minutes. From doing the preliminary exercise I got some basic knowledge on using celtex to create the script, for example where things go and what you need to write for each section. Also from it I learnt how to use some of the main tools on final cut express which made it a lot easier when editing the 2 minutes of our film, for example using match on action; which is something I think I have improved on. I also used an establishing shot in the film which Id practiced in the preliminary task which is a part of filming I improved on, and we used shot reverse shot which I think I got better at,

We used a point of view shot which was a close up so the audience can not only empathise with them but also see that character how the other character sees them, a close up next to characters to put the audience in the place with the bullies, we did this in our preliminary task with the teacher, and a shot with the camera tilted low whilst filming.

Also we used some layering for example in the eye shot, pull focus, fading and sound bridges when editing to make it smoother, continuous and more realistic which I think went well.
