Hospital work Students will be assigned to 4 rotations in the hospital. Students will be given a schedule for the rotations. These schedules may be traded before the first day in the hospital but are set in stone once rotations commence. NO STUDENT MUST STAY IN ANY SITE WHERE THEY FEEL UNSAFE OR UNWELL. Leaving a site because it is boring is not acceptable. Passing Out It has been hospital policy for the last 18 years that if a student passes out inside the hospital they must have an EKG, and if they hit their head a CAT scan, plus blood work; women are pregnancy tested. This is billed through the students private insurance. If you dont have insurance we can provide the information to sign up for CHIPS. Anywhere between 10-99% of students have passed out once during any given year. Drug Testing: If a drug such as morphine goes missing from the pharmacy everyone including students are locked in the pharmacy and everyone is tested for the missing drug. No one including the student has the right to decline to be tested. Agreeing to come to the hospital means you agree to this policy. If you dont want to be tested please withdraw from the program. Off Campus Rotations: Good Fellowship Ambulance Company, Wound Care, Physical Therapy, Dr. Merriam, Dr. Mudgil, Dr. Yang and Dr. DeForno are participants in the program. They have graciously agreed to allow the students to follow them around. Students are required to follow the dress code for each individual rotation. Students are to act with utmost professionalism. All hospital rules apply while off campus. It has been hospital policy for the last 15 years that if a student passes out at an off campus rotation they must return to the hospital. If they go unconscious they must have an EKG plus blood work. If they hit their head they must be brought back to the hospital via ambulance and have a CAT scan. This is

billed through the students private insurance. If you dont have insurance we can provide the information to sign up for CHIPS. Anywhere between 10-99% of students have passed out once during any given year.

Allied Health Dress Codes

We are guests of the Chester County Hospital. It is important, that we all understand, we are representatives of the STEM academy, and act and dress respectfully at all times. We must follow all OSHA / JCAHO / HIPPA / and STATE regulations. As such no student is ever allowed to wear open toed shoes on hospital property that means from the time the student parks until he or she exits the property. No student may wear hair ties on their wrists or arms. No student may have any facial piercing except small earrings. No student may wear nail polish, nail jewelry or fake nails. Not even during prom season. We would quickly lose our observations if we cost the hospital money in fines.

In the Hospital, Dr. Merriam, Dr. DeForno, Dr. Yang:

Scrubs must be worn in the hospital at all times. Only 100% white or black shirts are allowed underneath the scrubs (short sleeve, long sleeve or turtle neck). There can be no lines or prints on the shirt. White sneakers or white crocs as long as they do not have holes on the top of them must be worn with the scrubs. Students must come to the hospital dressed prepared, and may not change their clothes once they get to the hospital. No student may wear anything over top of the scrubs. No sweatshirts, no sunglasses, no fancy headbands. No student may wear hair ties on their wrists or arms. Neat and tidy appearances are the goal. Hair must be clean and tidy and out of the students eyes. Per new hospital policy, hair must be tied back and off the face. ANY STUDENT WHO DOES NOT COME DRESSED APPROPRIATELY MAY LOSE THEIR EXPERIENCE.

In the Classroom:
Students must wear scrubs and closed toed shoes. Students may not change their clothes once they get to the hospital. Scrubs must be worn at all times while on hospital property.

GFAC
Students must wear boots, dark pants - jeans are acceptable if they do not have holes in them and they fit appropriately, not too tight. Any tee shirt is fine so long as there is nothing offensive on it. BOOTS are mandatory. No sneakers. Being professional starts with looking professional.

Like it or not you are judged on how you are dressed, and how you appear.

Anywhere between 10-99% of students have passed out once during any given year. Not all students will be physically located in the hospital building. We have a number of off campus sites. These sites add diversity and depth to the program and allow the students a greater number of observations and experiences.
