Difference Between PERT & CPM

PERT is used for planning research and development projects where outcomes are uncertain, as it takes a probabilistic approach to estimating activity durations, while CPM is used for routine projects where costs and time can be accurately estimated as it follows a deterministic approach. Additionally, PERT focuses on events while CPM focuses on activities, and PERT is a planning tool whereas CPM is used to control costs and schedule.

Difference between PERT & CPM 1. PERT stands for Program evaluation & review technique.

CPM stands for Critical path method. 2. PERT is event oriented. CPM is activity oriented. 3. PERT is probabilistic tool. CPM is deterministic tool. 4. PERT is basically a tool for planning. CPM is a tool which controls cost & time. 5. PERT is suitable for R&D projects. CPM is suitable for routine and for projects whose cost & time can be estimated.
