Officers Receive MADD Award Honors

On Thursday, June 6, 3013 Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) held their annual Law Enforcement Recognition Awards at Middlesex County College. Law Enforcement Officers from around the state were recognized for their dedication and efforts in eradicating drunk drivers from our roadways. This years local recipients were Morris Township Police Officers Christopher Tongring, Brian Markt, and Steven Crump. Morristown Police Officers who received recognition were Joseph Heuneman and Adam Khoudja. Both departments work closely throughout the year on various investigative and enforcement details. This includes DWI enforcement. The Police Departments of Morris Township and Morristown want to congratulate all of this years recipients. According to the latest government statistics almost 10,000 people died in drunk driving crashes in 2011. Thats one every 53 seconds. One in three people will be involved in an alcohol-related crash in their lifetime. Through the efforts of MADD and police officers on patrol like those mentioned above, drunk driving deaths have been cut in half since 1980. Motorists are reminded that a person is guilty of drunk driving if they operate a vehicle with a BAC of .08% or greater. If you dont drive sober you should expect to get pulled over. Capt.
