Don't Be Scared of A Scarab!: by Crystal Ball

The scarab beetle, also known as the dung beetle, lays its eggs in manure then rolls the dung into a ball for protection. In ancient Egypt, the dung beetle was seen as sacred because they would occasionally appear in large numbers on Nile River beaches, leading Egyptians to believe they could reproduce asexually and must be gods connected to resurrection. When pharaohs died, priests would replace their hearts with scarab beetles made of jewels as part of burial rituals.

Dont Be Scared of a Scarab!

By Crystal Ball

The Scarab Beetle is also known as the Dung Beetle.

The scarab beetle and his mate lay their larva eggs then pile manure and waste around the eggs. They roll the pile into a ball with their hind legs.

In ancient Egypt men thought the dung beetle was sacred.

The dung beetle occasionally appeared in great numbers on the beaches of the Nile River.

Men also thought. . .

That the beetles were only males and could reproduce themselves.

Men are awesome!

So. . . Lo and Behold. . .

The men thought the beetle must be a god.

They connected the beetles on the beach . . .

with resurrection and eternal life.

When their pharaoh died, the holy men would cut out the heart and replace it with a jeweled scarab.
