October '11 - Bruno de Aro's 135 L Planted Aquarium.

(Brazil)
Luxuriant plants growing in a well balanced planted aquarium imply the need for regular pruning, which in turn lead to the issue of what to do with all those plant cuttings! If you've been through that you know how painful it is to throw away those clipped stems often beautiful, rare and expensive. Some will share them with friends, some will put them for sale on the internet, and some will take the opportunity to feed their "Multiple Tank Syndrome" using the cuttings for new aquascaping adventures in little secondary aquariums, such as this month's example. Enjoy! Owner: Setup: Dimensions: Volume: Filtration: Lighting: Substrate: Decoration: Others: Bruno de Aro, 26, from So Paulo (SP), 15 years of fishkeeping. June 2009. 90x30x50 cm. 135 L (nominal). Atman 400 power filter. 4x20 W 5600 K Sylvania T8 fluorescents, 10 hours/day. Treated earthworm compost, laterite and pool filter sand. Rocks and driftwood. 1 timer and 1 heater.

Water: Temp 25-27C, pH 6.5-6.7, GH 8-10. Maintenance: Weekly partial water changes. Fauna: Serpae tetras, rummynose tetras, cardinal tetras, oto's and a few others. Flora: Blyxa japonica, Eleocharis minima, Microsorum pteropus, Cabomba caroliniana, Ceratopteris thalictroides, Echinodorus macrophyllus, Echinodorus latifolius, Vesicularia dubyana, Rotala wallichii, Rotala sp. 'Nanjenshan', Micranthemum umbrosum, Hygrophila difformis. Comments: After so much time trying to set up a planted tank, I succeeded thanks to a lot of research here on this site and a lot of battling against the restless algae. Too bad I didn't take more and better photos at the time, but I think I was able to register the best moments of the tank. I wanted to share my 7 L Nano Tank too, I was able to set it up entirely with cuttings from the larger tank. If you'd like to submit an aquarium for Tank of the Month, just contact me.
