What is literature?

Form of art that can convey meaning and idea through its content Students need authentic material which they can understand to work from.

A) Language development: how vocab,grammar and patern are use in the writting

Why use literature?

B) Social/ moral development: brings student into contact with thoughts, feeling and experience of people who is outside from his own surrounding. C) Aesthetic development: pleasure that sutdent can get when reading A novel.

Literature and Language Teaching

The genres and the class reader

Short Stories: folktales etc Novel: plot run through whole books Drama: play with stage directions Poetry: writting characterised by ryhtm

Literature based teaching

Staging - pre-reading: activities that draw students into texts ( eg: visual,theme,language) -While-reading: read aloud,silently,listen or told to them (accompanying task or worksheet) -Post-rading: follow-up activities (art projects, Oral Activities, Writting Activities)
