TEMS Vs Actix Attributes Mapping
TEMS Vs Actix Attributes Mapping
When you export data from TEMS Investigation according to the instructions in Exporting the Data from TEMS Investigation, the data is exported as a tab-delimited ASCII file, with a column for each TEMS Information Element that is selected for the export, plus a column for the Hexadecimal String, if it was selected on the Options tab. You can open the exported data in Microsoft Excel, although if there are more columns than Excel supports, some of the columns will be ignored. Here is a TEMS Export file displayed in a simple viewing tool and showing the Hexadecimal String column:
Each row represents a message. The layer 3 messages have a value of UL or DL in the Direction column. The other messages (for which the Direction column has a value of Internal) come from the handset or scanning devices. When data is exported from recent versions of TEMS Investigation* using the "Message Hexadecimal String" option, the layer 3 and device messages are encoded in a hexadecimal format without being modified by TEMS. Analyzer is now able to decode this data using the standard Actix components for decoding layer 3 messages and messages from the Nokia, Motorola, Qualcomm, Ericsson, and DTI devices. This results in smaller export files and improved performance. The other columns in the export file store the proprietary TEMS information. The templates that are supplied by Actix are optimized to include the minimum amount of the proprietary data that is required to get good results for the intended purpose, because each additional column adds to the file size and therefore makes an impact on performance. When you open the exported data in Analyzer, attributes that are decoded from the hexadecimal string appear in the standard positions in the Attribute Explorer for the technology and device in question. The position of the attributes that are created from the TEMS Investigation Elements variessome, such as Latitude and Longitude are mapped to standard attributes and some are mapped to TEMS-specific attributes that appear within a TEMS folder somewhere suitable within the Attribute Explorer tree. The table below lists all of the TEMS Information Elements that are included in at least one of the templates. When a TEMS Information Element is mapped directly to a single Actix attribute, its name and position in the Attribute Explorer is shown. However, for some TEMS Information Elements there is not one-to-one mappingperhaps because the data is used in the calculation of more than one attribute. When additional Information Elements are added to the export, Analyzer attempts to decode them and adds attributes based on the Information Element name to the top-level TEMS folder within the data stream in the Attribute Explorer tree. Note that the templates that are designed for earlier versions of TEMS Investigation include more TEMS Information Elements, because the hexadecimal string is not decoded. Note: The export file does not include a date reference. Therefore, Analyzer extracts the date from the original log file if it is located in the same folder as the export file or if it is located in the export file's parent folder and the export file is in a folder called export. When this is not possible, Analyzer uses the last modified date of the export file. * TEMS Investigation GSM 5.0 or TEMS Investigation WCDMA 3.0 and all later versions (including TEMS Investigation 6.0) Related Topics Working with TEMS Data Exporting the Data from TEMS Investigation Templates for Exporting the Data Configuring a TEMS Export Manually
