Magnetic Balance Test of Transformer

The magnetic balance test of a three-phase transformer is conducted to check for any imbalance in the magnetic circuit. The test involves applying a single-phase 230V AC supply to one winding terminal and measuring the induced voltages on the other two winding terminals relative to the neutral. This is repeated for each phase winding. Any significant differences in the induced voltages across the phases would indicate an imbalance in the transformer's core.

Magnetic balance test of transformer is conducted only on three phase transformers to check the imbalance in the magnetic circuit.

In case of auto transformer, magnetic balance test of transformer should be repeated for IV winding also. There are three limbs side by side in a core of transformer. One phase winding is wound in one limb. The voltage induced in different phases depends upon the respective position of the limb in the core. The voltage induced in different phases of transformer in respect to neutral terminals given in the table below.
