Description
BD 5987.02
Manual reset only
Emergency Stop Relay BD 5987 complies fully with the requirements of the Standard Specifications referred to on page X. The unit is housed in a compact 45 mm case suitable for DIN rail mounting and is available in a wide range of auxiliary voltages. It differs from BN 5983 described previously in that it employs failsafe electronic circuitry for the self checking function and is limited to 2 N/O output contacts. Otherwise the principle of operation is the same.

Diag 1
The OFF and the EMERGENCY STOP buttons are connected in series between terminals S33 and S12/S22.The On/Reset button is connected between terminals Y2 and S22, or S12. The auxiliary supply is connected to terminals A1(+) and A2 ().The circuits to be tripped may be connected to terminals 1314 and 2324. When the EMERGENCY STOP button is activated power is removed from terminals S12/S22, relays K2 and K3 are de-energised and contacts 1314 and 2324 open. BD 5987.02 is equipped with short circuit monitoring of the On/Reset button, this relay is suitable for up to Category 3 and manual restart applications only. BD 5987.02/001 is equipped with cross fault monitoring of the stop button circuit, and is suitable for up to Category 4 and auto restart applications.
BD 5987.02 with External Contactors. This diagram shows how external contactors with positive guided contacts C1 and C2 may be used to reinforce the switching capacity of BD 5987 with continued redundancy.

Indication
C1.2
The relay is equipped with three green LEDs. When illuminated they indicate the healthy condition of the auxiliary supply and circuits K2 - K3.
Special Note
It is recommended that redundancy is carried through to the EMERGENCY STOP button by using a dual contact button as shown. If a single contact button is used then terminals S12 and S22 should be bridged. (Category 2 applications only).

Dimensions
If additional switching contacts are required then Relay BD 5987 may be used with extension module Type BG/LG 5929 / BN 3081 (see text). Should a timed delayed release contact be required then BD 5987 may be used with time delay modules BG 7925 / BG 7926 / IL 7824 / IN 7824 / BA 7924 (see diag 5/ 6). Model BD 5987 can be used with protective guards/screens and an insulation monitoring relay may be connected to monitor PE(-) to ground. NB: When BD 5987.02/001 is used in automatic reset mode, there will be a 900 ms delay on restart.
