1. Hemoglobin is composed of globin proteins and a heme group which contains iron. 2. Red blood cells use glycolysis during anaerobic conditions to produce energy in the form of ATP from glucose without using oxygen. 3. Glutathione plays a key role in protecting red blood cells from oxidative damage by neutralizing reactive oxygen species produced during glycolysis.
