Different Enclosures of The Rotating Machines

The document discusses ventilation requirements and protections for electrical machines. It describes machines that have protected ventilation openings to prevent water or debris from entering, and mentions screens, expanded metal, or perforated metal can provide such protection. It also discusses different cooling methods for electrical machines including self-ventilation, forced draught, induced draught, air cooling, water cooling, and using gas cooling circulated through water-cooled gas coolers. Submersible electrical machines are also able to work underwater for long periods.

No restrictions to ventilation Necessitated by good mechanical construction

FIG: rotor is supported by a separate pedestal bearing.

It has pedestal bearing Supported independently of the m/c frame.

FIG: aluminium end bracket

Having endbrackets thro which the bearing form an integral path.

If the ventilation of the machine is materially impeded, the protected m/c is used To protect the rotating and live parts.

Area of the ventilation opening is less than 64.5 mm2. Such protection may provided by
screens of wire mesh expanded metal perforated metal other suitable envelopes.

Has highly protected ventilation opening Excludes the vertically falling water/dirt.

The liquid/solid particles falls @ the vertically downward direction +/- 100% will be splashed out directly

The hose has a nozzle of 9.5 mm dia. Max pressure is 3.5 kg/cm2 and will not exceed the period of 30 seconds.

3 types with provision for: Inlet duct only Outlet duct only Both inlet and outlet duct. 3 cooling ways: Self ventilation(PV). Forced draught(PVFD). Induced draught(PVID).

No connection between enclosed air and external air. Not air-tight.

Fan is used to circulate the external air thro the cooling surface/cooling passages. Fan is driven by the motor itself.

Purpose is same as that of TEFC But it has separately driven fan.

Use water/liquid as the cooling medium. Water cooled/other liquid cooled surfaces embodied in the machine itself.

Used to cool the enclosed air. The cooler can be: Air(CACA) Water(CACW) Other suitable cooling medium.
Fig: CACA

TE m/c is cooled by the gas instead of air. This gas cooled by circulating it thro the water-cooled gas coolers.

No need for the external weather protection. Works under different weather conditions.

Figure: Water tight plates.

It can be immersed in the water to a depth of more than a meter. Subjected to the pressure of 0.2 kg/cm2 for an hour.

Capable of working for a long period. Submerged under a specific water head.
