Drug Indication Adverse Effects Nursing Consideration

Vitamin K3 (Menadione) is a synthetic analogue of Vitamin K used to treat Vitamin K deficiency caused by conditions that impair fat absorption like malabsorption syndrome or cholestasis. It works slowly over 2-3 days by influencing the hepatic enzyme system. Potential adverse effects include cytotoxicity in liver cells, weakening of the immune system, possible mutagenic effects, and disturbances in calcium ion levels. Nursing considerations include monitoring for signs of adverse effects and instructing patients on the slow onset of action.
