Journal Entry
My name is Pedro Alvares Cabral. I am going on an expedition for King Manuel of Portugal. He appointed me commander of a fleet of 13 ships and 1,500 men. I am going to follow the route of Vasco da Gama to India and return with valuable spices. My objective is to spread the word of god wherever I go. I have never sailed before, but King Manuel trusts me and knows I can succeed. The wind has picked up these last few days and we are moving faster than ever. Right now I am standing on the deck staring down at the enchanting ocean and letting the ocean splash in my face, wondering what adventures lie ahead. I hope we hit land soon because many of my men already suffer from malnutrition and the rest fear of it. I didn't stock enough food, we only bought . But what ever happens I will keep my spirits high and hope for better results next time.
