Midterm Frida Kahlo Timeline

Typefaces Used: Brush Script Std (script) and Adobe Garamond Pro (Serif) I used an achromatic palette to keep the focus on the Artist’s paintings. I used Frida Kahlo’s original signature in the title. To match the original signature, I used Brush Script Std in the other titles. Painting titles and text about the artist are in Adobe Garamond to maintain legibility. Frida Kahlo was mostly known for self-potraits. Hence, I featured her most famous self-potraits in the timeline. Also, these paintings often contained her pet monkeys. Therefore, I used a monkey painted by Kahlo as the backbone for the timeline.

"I paint myself because I'm so often alone and because I am the subject I know best"

- Frida Kahlo Frida Kahlos life was riddled with accidents and miscarriages. Unable to have children, Kahlo put her energy into painting and surrounded herself with numerous pets including hairless dogs, monkeys, a deer and birds. Her pets were, in some aspects, surrogates for the children she could never have due to the injuries sustained in accidents. In Mexican mythology, monkeys are symbols of lust, but Kahlo portrayed them as tender and protective.
