JUNIOR YEAR TIMELINE

Class of 2015

SEPTEMBER
Prepare for PSAT test.
Use free practice tests on MCIS or visit www.collegeboard.org.

JANUARY
Prepare, register and study for College Entrance
Exams ACT or SAT. -Review PSAT/PLAN results. -Use free practice tests on MCIS. -When registering, request to send your test scores directly to four colleges that interest you.

Review your course selections. Plan college visits whenever possible. Attend NACCAP Christian College Fair @ Minnehaha
Academy from 6:30-8:30pm.

Memorize your Social Security number and


Maranatha Christian Academy Upper School CEEB number (240-267).

OCTOBER
Oct. 4 - Bring parents to College Night at MCA. Oct. 10 Sign up and attend the MN National
College Fair.

FEBRUARY/MARCH
Feb. 14 - Take practice ACT test at MCA Explore possible majors & colleges at:
www.mncis.intocareers.org, www.collegeboard.org, and www.myplan.com.

Oct. 17 - Take PSAT exam at MCA Oct. 25 & 26 - Invite your parents to an MCIS training
session during conferences.

Attend ACT practice sessions at MCA (English, Math


or Science).

Call and schedule a meeting with counselor or dean


of academics to discuss future plans during Parent/Teacher conferences.

Record all accomplishments, activities, and work


experiences over the past three years on rsum on MCIS.

Plan college visits whenever possible (MEA weekend


or conferences).

Schedule a meeting with counselor or dean of


academics to discuss future plans.

Create a list of colleges that are possible interests.

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER
Create a file to manage your college search, testing,
and application information.

List should contain reach, target and likely schools.

Arrange college visits over spring break, and if


possible, attend classes on campus.

Establish personal interests and college musthaves.

Talk with high school alumni when they visit for the
holidays about their college experiences.

APRIL
Take ACT test If interested, register and attend Kaplan ACT prep
classes at MCA.

Apply for summer employment or volunteer


opportunities.

MAY
Take AP exams, if applicable. End the school year with strong grades. Ask academic teachers for letters of
recommendation.

Consult English teacher for appropriate summer


reading recommendations.

Become familiar with financial aid and scholarship


opportunities available to you.

If considering military academic or ROTC


scholarships, be sure to contact the guidance office before leaving for summer.

JUNE/JULY/AUGUST
Continue to visit potential schools. Consider a job shadow or internship relevant to
career interest.

Review several college applications to become


familiar with writing questions (use Common Application at www.commonapp.org).

Narrow down your list of colleges to 6-8 schools.


List should include likely schools as well as reach and target schools.
