Studies Assignment (i) The term democracy is defined as the free and equal right of every person to participate

in a system of government, often practiced by electing representatives of the people by the majority of the people. Two types of Government systems found in the Commonwealth Caribbean are Republic Constitutional monarchy The magistrates court: Members of parliament: Three reasons why the citizens of a country elect a Government are To make laws for the country. To protect the rights of the citizens and maintain order in society Enforce the laws To direct the economic activities of the country. One action they may take to influence the decisions of the Government in their country is rallying The action suggested above would be successful because the Government is responsible for maintaining the citizens happiness. If they arent content with something and they rally against it that will in turn add pressure to the Government in making the right decisions.

Question 2 (i) Regional Cooperation is defined as a multi-lateral agreement which involves two or more countries or states. (ii) Two factors that encourage regional cooperation among Caribbean countries are The Caribbean countries are in close proximity to each other. Travel from one country to another can be done in a relatively short space of time. There economic, political and social problems are very similar. (iii) Three reasons why Caribbean countries may find it difficult to cooperate are The richer countries wont want to share their wealth with the poorer countries They have different strategies for economic growth. Some depend on tourism, petroleum, others on agriculture and forestry. They produce similar products ranging from sugar cane to provisions. Thus causing intra-regional trade to decrease. (iv) One measure that Caribbean leaders may take to encourage regional cooperation
