This document analyzes the cover art for Britney Spears' album "Circus". The title suggests an entertaining and fun theme fitting with a circus, but also hints that Britney feels the public sees her as a "freak". Britney is surrounded by blue stars to portray her as a star, while the blue color suggests her stardom has cooled. The red border and font imply danger and sexuality. Analysis of a CD cover

- Britney Spears

The title - Circus

The word Circus suggests to the audience that this album will be entertaining, lively and fun. However, the word also has connotations of freak shows and perhaps is to indicate the Britney feels the public have looked upon her like a clown at a circus or at a freak show.

Star border
Britneys image is surrounded by multiple blue stars. This ties in with the circus theme but also sends a message to the audience that Britney is still a star. The colour blue is a cold colour though perhaps suggesting that Britneys stardom has gone cold recently.

Red Border and Font

The colour red has connotations of both danger linking the album with something only risk takers would but. Red also has sexual undertones possibly to highlight the idea that Britney is still sexually desirable.

Font Type
The Font is reminscent of old circus posters, tying in with the whole theme. The format of the writing is also on a curve, arguably a link to the singers curvaceous body.

The image
Britney is dressed in pale pink an overtly feminine colour. The fabric is net and chiffon, materials often associated with ballerinas subsequently linking Britney to vulnerable and sweet little girls. Her hair is blonde and wavy, mermaid esque again linking her to the feminine ideals in society. Britneys face is pointed downwards again hinting at her vulnerability.Overall the look is of an innocent girl.
