Pneumatic Sensor: 1 DC Meeting 2 29/1/2013

Pneumatic sensors use air pressure to detect objects and generate control signals. Centrifugal pumps use an impeller driven by a motor to accelerate liquid and convert power to kinetic energy. Centrifugal pumps have three basic components - an impeller, volute or diffuser, and driver. Impeller types include open, semi-open, closed, single suction, double suction, non-clogging, and axial or mixed flow. Efficiency is calculated by comparing water power to shaft power, and performance is shown on a curve graphing flow and head. Axial flow pumps move fluid parallel to the shaft using an impeller and have applications in marine transport and industrial mixing.

Pneumatic sensor

Pneumatic sensors are used to sense the presence or absence of object and thereby generate a control signal in the form of jet. A centrifugal pump converts the input power to kinetic energy in the liquid by accelerating the liquid by a revolving device an impeller

Efficiency calculation:
Efficiency of the pump = Pw / Ps

Where
Pw - water power = (Q x H) / 3960 Q is flow in GPM

H is head in feet

Ps - shaft power (power provided to the pump shaft in brake horsepower)

Axial Flow pump:

An Axial flow pump or Fan is used to push fluid in a direction that is parallel to the shaft of the impeller Axial flow pumps are commonly used in marine applications to transfer ballast. They are also used to transfer and mix large masses of liquids in chemical treatment plants.
