Identifying Topics -must involve organized body of knowledge -can come from standards, textbook, curriculum, students, or teachers Specify Learning Goals -identify POTENTIAL generalizations -have students find patterns, form explanations, and hypothesis -data typically organized as a matrix -gather actual data (material students use to construct understanding of topic) -display info in factual form -provide sufficient info

Open Ended Phase -students describe, compare, and search for patterns -direct students to observe and describe matrix -look for similarities and differences -provide reference points for students to analyze data Casual Phase -students look for possible cause and effect relationships -recognize comparisons and explain Hypothetical Phase -additional analysis of info Closure & Application -generalize to form broad relationships -apply to new situations

-measure knowledge of content -students ability to make or identify conclusions supported by evidence -students ability to produce an answer instead of identify -feedback is crucial to promote deeper understanding of content

-involvement, success, and challenge -increasing competence -students see how context is related to real life and that they understand it -benefits of cooperation -students ability to work together

So what? What is important to understand about this?

This model is important because it promotes students ability to produce answers from critical thinking rather than just labeling/identifying answers.
