Boiling Point and Pressure

The boiling point of a liquid depends on the pressure of the gas above it. As pressure decreases, the boiling point decreases. At sea level with 1 atmosphere of pressure, water boils at 100 degrees Celsius. Determining a substance's boiling point can indicate its purity, as an impure substance may have a higher boiling point than the normal boiling point.
