1. Pre-Assessments Students will receive a 8 x 7 farm grid. They will use cardinal directions to place a number in the right spot. One question will be write a 1 three spaces to the west of the barn. There will be five questions like that one. Then on the map of the United states they will find and color the state of Utah red. They will have a map of the world and they will draw the equator, and label the North and South poles. They will then find and color the United States of America Blue. They will then find and color the compass rose green. 2. Formative Assessments/Evidence

Will fill in the first page of where we live book. Lesson 2- Identify the equator and north and south poles. Will read Poles Apart. Will look at different maps and globes and see if we can find the equator. Write a Venn diagram of what some of the differences and similarities of the north and south poles are. Lesson 3- Identify Utah on a variety of maps and on a globe. Will read Our World. Will fill in the a few pages of where we live book. Will look at a bunch of different maps and find Utah on each of them. Lesson 4- Identify the United States on a variety of maps and on a globe. Will read the book America the Beautiful. Will learn the USA song. Will fill in the a few pages of where we live book. Will look at a bunch of different maps and globes and
find the United States of American on each of them. Lesson 5- Create a map showing important sites or landmarks on a school or community (i.e., firehouse, city hall, churches). Will fill in the a few pages of where we live book. Read, Mapping Pennys World. Make a map of our classroom. They will make a map of their bedroom. Lesson 6- physical features (i.e. continents, oceans, rivers, lakes), and man-made features (equator, North and South poles, countries) on a map and on a globe. Will read Tulip Sees the World. Will learn the continent song. Wrap up all that we learned and finish our books. We will look for key features of maps and globes.
