What is an Argumentative Speech?


The purpose of an argumentative speech is to organize and present your well-reasoned conclusions in order to persuade the audience to accept or at least seriously consider your point of view.

1. Personal Pronouns -Using words such as you, we, us or I 2. Repetition - Stating the same point more than once. 3. Emotive Language -Using language to create sympathy 4. Commands -Using words such as demand/urge/want 5. Persuasive Language/ Opinion as Fact -Stating something that is an opinion as if it was a fact.

6. Use a short sentence to begin your speech. 7. Only use short sentences to allow your audience time to think. Otherwise your speech will become slow.

Each group will get one piece of paper. Read through your character profile. You are on board the Titanic, which has just hit an iceberg and is beginning to sink.. The last lifeboat is about to be lowered, and has 1 free space Your task is to formulate a persuasive argument as to why your character should be the one to be saved
