DISTRIBUTIVE: The distributive property allows us to multiply values using a combination of multiplication and addition. For example, if multiplying 5 and 19, you can break up 19 into an addition problem, say (10 + 9). The resulting problem is 5 x (10+9). The distributive property also allows us to distribute the multiplication throughout the addition problem. Simply, we "distribute" the 5 to every number in the addition problem by way of multiplication. So, 5 x (10 + 9) = (5 x 10) + (5 x 9). ASSOCIATIVE PROPERTY OF ADDITION/ MULTIPLICATION: The associative property is the rule that refers to grouping. For addition the rule is a + ( b + c) = (a + b) + c. For multiplication the rule is a (b c) = (a b) c. COMMUTATIVE PROPERTY OF ADDITION/ MULTIPLICATION: Commutative property is the property that refers to moving stuff around. An example for this property is a + b = b + a. In multiplication it is a x
